A fascinating day-out, along the offbeat tracks deep
down Goa’s hinterland, taking you back in time.
See for your self-traditional Goan life-styles and above all what life
really means to a Goan. Travel through time and experience how people are
caught up in a time warp. Treat yourself to a haircut or a shave at the
local barber, try your hand at weaving coir rope or shaping the destiny of a
clay pot at the local pottery before you return back to the 21st century.
See the locals along the coast build wooden boats with bare hands with no
sophisticated tools. The boats are held to gather with hand made coir ropes
and sealed with cotton and resin. Visit the village barber at the village
square after making his daily rounds on house calls and watch the fishermen
mend their nets at the riverfront. Move on to see subtle fingers of women in rustic village surroundings
weaving unending lengths of coir rope made from coconut husk. Watch the
local “Dhobi” (laundry man) at the nearby stream, well or any other source
of water doing his daily washing over a stone… He has been putting up miles
and miles of clothes on the washing line over the years… just like his
ancestors. Visit the local brewer distilling “Feni” the true Goan spirit of
life before you get to a secluded beach for a refreshing swim and lunch.
Watch the local Goan Bread “Sannas” being steamed and cashew nuts being
roasted while you have sumptuous lunch serving a selection of local
specialties cooked with select spices and served in traditional Goan
utensils. Don’t miss the local magic…weaving of palm leaves used to cover
roofs of local houses. After lunch, its time to experience, the age-old mode
of transport. Take off on a bullock-cart ride and travel back in time.
Finish off the day with a visit to the local pottery. Try your luck at
the wheel of fortune and try your hand at shaping anything of your choice
with a helping hand from the local potter. His deft hands have shaped
thousands of earthen pots…and his destiny too. Collect your free souvenir to
remind you of your step back in time. |
