Elephants, Tigers &
More
Depart from Margao by the Konkan Railway Passenger train at 1350 hrs and
reach Udupi Railway Station at 1900 hrs. The route to Udupi is rather
scenic, the Konkan Railway traverses rivers, backwaters promising you a
feast of west coast countryside.
There would be a coach awaiting your arrival at the Udupi Railway
Station, which would take you through the heart of the city to your halt for
the night. Indian journeys can be tiring & thirsty affairs; quench your
thirst with a welcome drink while your escort acquaints you with the hotel &
other things you need to know.
You wake up the next day rather early at 0600 hrs, & breakfast would be
ready by 0630 hrs. At 0700 hrs your tour begins and you head off via
countryroads, narrow bridges and forests to your first halt “Agumbe”. The
trip to Agumbe is never boring, the 7-Kms long Ghat section has 14 hairpin
bends. A brief stop enroute will be made to take in the breath taking views
that this section of the road has to offer. Tea at Agumbe and we proceed to
Gajanur Village, to the Elephant Training Centre.
Once we are done with the elephants, onward via Shimoga city to
Tavarekhoppa for tigers! The Safari Park at Tavarekhoppa offers lions,
sambar, black bucks, deer, etc. We also visit the museum, and on our return
we stop at Shimoga city for lunch and then we stop at Thirtthally town to
shop for spices, tea and coffee. Spice shopping done, back to Udupi city to
call on the deity at the famous Krishna temple & return to the hotel at
around 1900 hrs.
Next day, depart the hotel at 0730 hrs and board the train for Margao.
