Taragarh Palace is situated on a 15 acre forested estate surrounded by tea gardens in the picturesque Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh. At an altitude of 1000 meters, the palace is set at the foot of the Dauladhar Mountains and commands a magnificent view of the snow-capped peaks. Formerly known as Alhilal-standing for 'land of the crescent moon' ---the palace was built in the early 1930s as a royal summer resort. In 1951, it was bought over by the royal family of Jammu and Kashmir for the dowager Maharani who lived there for several years.
